In a significant development for the Spokane Fatherhood Initiative (SpoFI), founders Ron and Becky Hauenstein have made a generous donation that will secure the organization’s financial future. The couple has gifted a property that, when sold, will establish the SpoFI Endowment Fund, managed by the Innovia Foundation.
A Gift with Lasting Impact
The donated property, a three-bedroom, two-bath house, is expected to yield at least $250,000 for the endowment fund. This fund will provide a steady stream of income to SpoFI, with an annual payout of 4% of the fund’s value. At the initial valuation, this translates to approximately $10,000 per year to support SpoFI’s mission.
A Legacy of Compassion
The Hauensteins purchased the property in 2011 with a vision of using it as a ministry rather than a business venture. Since 2013, they have rented the house to a single mother and her children, providing stable and affordable housing for a family that had previously lived in shelters and substandard apartments.
Ron Hauenstein explained their motivation:
We always looked at this house as a way to glorify God by treating it as a ministry, not a business. […] Now this heritage of service to others will be continued in perpetuity through the SpoFI Endowment Fund.
Community Support and Growth
The creation of the endowment fund was announced at SpoFI’s recent fundraiser by Yvonne Smith, development director for Innovia. Smith emphasized the importance of endowments in supporting nonprofits and allowing community members to contribute at any level.
From Vision to Reality
The Hauensteins, who were instrumental in founding SpoFI in 2017, see the establishment of this endowment fund as a realization of their vision to create a lasting organization that serves the Spokane community. Their initial $200 investment to open SpoFI’s first checking account has now blossomed into a substantial endowment that will support fatherhood initiatives for years to come.

This transformative gift ensures that SpoFI will continue to strengthen families and support fathers in our community for generations to come.
